The BID is working with Council District 14 and the Los Angeles Department of City Planning on transforming an existing alley in South Park into a green alley. The project is one of 3 alleys in Downtown LA chosen as pilot projects under the DTLA Forward initiative. In 2015, the BID partnered with the Los Angeles Sustainability Collaborative to complete a tailored and specific report on how to construct a green alley network in South Park. The current pilot project attempts to build off the recommendations in that report and develop a template that can be replicated in other alleys.
Green Alleys in South Park: A Report
Alexander Jung and Clare Eberle of The Los Angeles Sustainability Collective (LASC) wrote Green Alleys to analyze the current conditions of South Park’s 22 alley segments. Green Alleys makes recommendations for shaping and implementing a program to “green” the alleys and facilitate multi-purpose public spaces using a range of interventions.
