KELCEY FISHER NAMED OLiVE DTLA’s FIRST ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

Artist to Live Rent-Free for Six Months and Create Public-Facing Art in New Downtown Los Angeles Apartment Community

Los Angeles, CA – OLiVE DTLA, a newly-developed, art-inspired apartment community in Downtown Los Angeles, announced the selected artist for its coveted Artist-in-Residence (AiR) program. Kelcey Fisher (aka KFiSH), a street artist and muralist who splits time between New York City and Los Angeles, will live rent-free in a two-story loft at OLiVE for six months. He’ll also have the opportunity to create original work on OLiVE’s interior and public-facing exterior walls, showcase his exhibits in the building’s communal spaces and receive a monthly allowance for art supplies and support.

The AiR reveal was made on June 22 at the OLiVE AiR Show, an event produced by Street Art House. The event showcased the work of the program’s four finalists and included attendance from some of the 185 artist applicants, city officials including representatives from Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office, Councilmember Jose Huizar and members of the art and DTLA communities.

“Kelcey had all the qualities we were looking for in our Artist-in-Resident,” said Amber Huntley-Ruiz, Director of Marketing at The Wolff Company. “We were blown away by the talent and range of applicants; but, in the end, Kelcey’s approach and work resonated with the panel. We’re looking forward to seeing what Kelcey creates while residing at OLiVE.”

KFiSH recently returned from New York City and is expected to move into OLiVE this August. A fixture in the art scene, KFiSH’s work imbues figurative references to the eccentric cultures of his past and present. Through detailed brush strokes, he instills his stylistic expression into various murals throughout Southern California, distinguished by their iconic patterns and soft primary colors. The synthesis of his signature hues harnesses a nostalgia for his youth growing up in Southern Florida and San Diego, while mixed media images evoke a sense of familiarity and accessibility.

“I’m honored to be OLiVE DTLA’s first Artist-in-Residence,” said Fisher. “There were many talented artists and great individuals associated with this program and I’m so appreciative to see this response to my work. I’m looking forward to showing my appreciation through my work and the connections I make through this opportunity. Big thank you to everyone involved, including The Wolff Company, UDR, Street Art House, Flux, Wicked+ and the entire community.”

OLiVE created the Artist-in-Residence program with the goal of refocusing attention on Los Angeles’ revered art scene back on downtown. From the beginning, OLiVE’s ethos embraced art and artistic expression, with many of the building’s facades featuring commissioned work from celebrated local artists like David Flores, Hauser, and Dave Kinsey. Through this program, OLiVE continues to celebrate and contribute to the vibrancy of the local art scene, which is endemic to Los Angeles.

Street Art House, a company that creates curated art experiences, mural commissions and content showcasing the works of artists from around the world, partnered with OLiVE for the AiR program.
